Kınalı island: Kabatas pier lies one hour away from Istanbul. It is the closest and smallest inhabited island of Istanbul. The majority of the exiles in Eastern Roman times were sent to this island. It is said that the famous Byzantine commander Roman Dijonin, who was defeated in the battle of Malezgirt against Selcuk Turk Sultan Alparslan was exiled here. Whilst the island has no forest or greenery, it is calm and tranquil. It's easy to access from Istanbul making it popular with tourists.
It has a population of approximately 2000 people and an area of 13 km².
Büyükada: This is the largest of the islands in the Marmara Sea. It is also the center of the Prince Islands.
Buyukada is the most visited island by both local and foreign tourists alike. This is mainly due to its historic buildings and stunning beaches. Motor vehicles are virtually prohibited on the island. Instead ~ you can travel by more traditional modes of transport = bicycles or horse and cart. Büyükada has got a population of approximately 7500 people and its area is 5.4 km².
Heybeliada: Second largest island of the Prince archipelago. You can reach it in just over an hour by ferry from Istanbul Kabataş pier. Historically the island has been an important religious center, especially for Greek Orthodox Christians.
Clergy schools and monasteries were operating until the 1970s. The current population is approximately 4500 and the islands area is 2,3 km.
